PINEVILLE, La. (LBM) – Louisiana Christian University is now accepting applications for fall enrollment in its TEACH alternative certificate program which the school hopes will help place more teachers in the school system.

Previously, the school only offered summer enrollment to those who had a bachelor’s degree and wanted to pursue state certification in education. To meet growing needs, LCU decided to expand the program.

“We hope this fall group will appeal to those who missed the start of summer,” said Victory Lindo-Lemons, assistant professor of education at LCU and coordinator of the TEACH program. “We basically want to change the narrative to say it’s not too late to join the TEACH program and earn your master’s degree while pursuing certification.”

Students must complete 21 hours to become certified.

According to the Rapides Parish School Board website, schools in the parish have over 98 teaching positions that need to be filled by the school. from August 8. RPSB Superintendent Jeff Powell said LCU continues to be a strong partner through its TEACH program.

“Every year there is a great need to fill the dozens of vacancies left by those who retire, move or choose other options,” he said. “LCU and our other higher education partners are working diligently with us to fill these voids.”
