Two adorable losers hatch a plan to make quick money for the faithful when they realize that in order to be successful in a Christian film, you don’t have to be a true Christian or a filmmaker. This is the configuration for Based on faith, starring Luke Barnett, Tanner Thomason, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, Lance Reddick, and Jason Alexander, and the first trailer is a crazy hoot, with our heroes Luke and Tanner taking to the world of Christian cinema as they begin production on A Prayer in space – which sounds pretty awesome, to be honest.
“Why are Christian films so bad? They ask at one point. “They don’t have to be bad,” comes the answer. “They just don’t have to be good.” Speaking as someone who has seen more of these movies than they want to admit, that seems like a fair assessment.
When Based on faith was first announced in 2019, Fox News had the plot synopsis on Coals as the work of “Hollywood wannabes” which had provided them with “just one more example of how American media culture targets Christians like his favorite villains “.
Barnett, who wrote the film, told RELEVANT that Fox News failed to give them a chance. “I grew up in the church, my father is a pastor and [director] Vince is still incredibly active in his religious community, ”he said. “I can’t wait for people to see this movie. It’s not a movie that pokes fun at people who have faith, it’s a commentary on blindly supporting something.
